Pupils and staff at Parsons Down Infant School are celebrating after their latest Ofsted inspection.

The school retained its ‘Good’ Ofsted rating from its last full inspection in 2019.

The inspector’s report said pupils are “happy and secure” and that “relationships are are strong at all levels.”

It also commended the early years provision for having a “very well sequenced” foundation curriculum.

“This fantastic Ofsted report is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire school community,” said Catherine Bull, headteacher since January 2019.

“Our pupils are at the heart of everything we do and it is wonderful to see their happiness and security recognised.

“The strong relationships and high levels of care reflect our commitment to our school rules: be kind, be safe, be respectful.

“This achievement is truly a team effort and I am grateful to our staff, pupils and parents for their support and collaboration."

To improve further, the inspector’s report suggested the school should implement more opportunities for pupils to apply their knowledge of mathematics to more problem-solving and reasoning tasks.

It added: “The knowledge and vocabulary the school want pupils to learn are not precisely identified in some foundation subjects as well as they could be.

“The school should make sure that the necessary knowledge it wants pupils to learn is accurately identified and clearly sequenced.”

This marked the first routine inspection for the school, which currently enrols 90 children, since the pandemic.

The inspectors took the impact of the pandemic into account when evaluating the school.

The Infant School moved into the same building as the Junior School in September 2022.

It forms part of the Parsons Down Partnership of Schools, a hard federation with a shared governing body.
