Kennet School in Thatcham celebrates rising stars and annual games
A secondary school in Thatcham has hosted its much-loved annual games, bringing together children with disabilities throughout the district.
Kennet School hosted its inclusive day of sport on Saturday, May 3, with events ranging from javelin, boccia and wheelchair races to quadra throw, table skittles, table cricket and an obstacle course.
This year, the school welcomed pupils from Charters School, Garland Junior School, Lambs Lane School, PALS and Speenhamland School.
Kennet headteacher Grace Rigg said: “The Kennet Games are one of the highlights of our year.
“I’m so proud of everyone who made the event such a success, especially our PDR [Physical Disability Resource], Mrs Morton, Mr Joyce and the many volunteers who gave their time so generously.
“Seeing our students and guests enjoy the day together is what makes it so special.”
The school also celebrated holding its first rehearsal for its brand-new Rising Stars Choir, welcoming Year 7 pupils who will be joining the school this September.
Over the next eight weeks, the group will rehearse weekly in preparation for their debut performance at the Kennet School Concert on July 2.
Speaking after the first rehearsal, Francis Baily Primary School pupil Isaac said: “It was really good.
“I made a new friend. I am surprised at how good we sounded, and it was only our first day.”
Ms Rigg added: “Music plays a vital role in the life of our school.
“We’re thrilled to welcome our new Year 7s through the Rising Stars Choir. It’s a brilliant way to start their journey with us.”
