The Hurst School colour run kicks off weekend of Coronation celebrations

Coronation celebrations at a North Hampshire secondary school kicked off the historic weekend in vibrant style.

The Hurst School, Baughurst, held its annual colour run event after school on the afternoon of Friday, May 5 and raised over £1,000.

More than 200 students, who ended the day completely covered in coloured powder, took part in the fundraising activity which aimed to raise enough money to improve and upgrade the school’s outdoor sports facilities.

Hurst headteacher Jayne McLaren said: “This was a fantastic event and a great start to the Coronation weekend.

“The weather held, in fact the sun shone, and the students really enjoyed themselves.

“The money raised will improve our sports facilities, which are used by all the students at the school.”

The afternoon began with a group warm-up to music led by members of staff in the PE department, before Ms McLaren started the main event.

The colour run had students running three laps of the school field while navigating various obstacles along the way.

These obstacles included sets of tyres to step in and out of and benches to jump over.

Standing at various points around the course were school staff members armed with buckets of coloured powder to throw at the runners.

The Hurst School’s next fundraising event will be its summer fete, which will take place on Saturday, July 1 from 11am to 2pm.
