School garden spruce-up for Chieveley Primary in volunteer scheme

The group of 32 visited the school in early November and turned their hand to a number of tasks, including installing raised flowerbeds, laying stepping stones and general maintenance work on the garden.
Their efforts will move staff and pupils at the primary school closer towards their goal of achieving level two in the British Horticultural Society’s campaign for school gardening, which aims to encourage and support schools to develop and actively use a school garden.
The Vodafone Foundation also provided funding towards the cost of equipment and materials used on the day.
One parent, Clare Pool, said: “A big thank you to the hardworking volunteer team who transformed our garden at Chieveley school.
“As a mum with three boys at the school we particularly will benefit enormously from your work. All of them learn better outdoors and all have a love of nature. This facility will enable the teaching staff to better utilise our amazing outdoor space.”
The event was organised by the Volunteer Centre West Berkshire.
