The Downs School welcomes three federation primaries to Compton for all-day music showcase
A federation of primary schools came together this week for a special day of music at The Downs School in Compton.
Pupils from Compton, Beedon and Basildon primaries attended the event with their headteachers, organised by The Down’s Music Department.
The children spent the morning learning and rehearsing a range of uplifting songs, including Get Back Up Again, Unstoppable and Price Tag.
In the afternoon, they visited the Music Department, where they were treated to live performances from older pupils for taste of what’s to come in secondary school.
The day ended on a high as parents from all three schools watched the children take to the stage in the grand finale.
Head of Music Tracey Brennecke praised both the primary pupils and GCSE music students who played a key role in the day’s success.
She said: “It was wonderful to see our GCSE students stepping up as mentors, helping the younger pupils grow in confidence and enjoy making music together.
“Their leadership, patience and enthusiasm were outstanding, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.
“Watching all the children perform so brilliantly at the end of the day was a truly special moment.”
Director of Primaries for The Downland Federation Melissa Cliffe added: “It was amazing to hear the brilliant singing from all of our children and see how confident they were when performing.
“We are incredibly proud of every pupil who took part and grateful to the school’s dedicated Music Department and staff for making the day such a success.
“More than just a singing event, this was a day about teamwork, friendship and the power of music to bring people together.”
The school said it looks forward to making the event an annual tradition.
