School revamp well underway

A multi-million pound project to remodel Denefield School in Tilehurst is progressing well

A MULTI-million pound project to revamp a school in Tilehurst is well underway.

A £9 million Government grant to overhaul the Denefield School has seen the first steps of the £6.7 million re-modelling of its science and technology block taken to make it a state-of-the-art facility.

Contractors Willmott Dixon have almost completed the steel frame for the new block, and re-roofing and insulating of all flat roofs have been carried out, as has refurbishment of pupil staff toilets.

Conversion of the caretaker's bungalow to a pre-school nursery space and remodelling of the schools changing rooms is still in progress.

West Berkshire's executive member for education, Irene Neill (Con, Aldermaston) said: “This project will leave an enhanced learning legacy that will benefit generations of children to come.”
