School sweethearts celebrate 60 years of marriage
The Thatcham couple, who met at school, celebrated their anniversary with a party
A THATCHAM couple who recently reached their 60th wedding anniversary celebrated the occasion with a party for family and friends on Saturday, at The Travellers Friend, Crookham Common.
Robert and Gaynor Preston, of Elmhurst Road, met as pupils at Shaw House School, Newbury, (now Trinity School) during the Second World War, after boys and girls used the same building following the bombing of Mr Preston's school.
After leaving school, Mr Preston worked as a die maker and Mrs Preston as a seamstress, as well as bringing up their three children.
Their daughter-in-law, Pauline Preston, said: “Their friendship just blossomed. They have been together all this time which I think is a quite an achievement.
“The party was a great success, they had a lovely time.”
The pair have nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
