Tilehurst school thanks local sponsors for backing cross patrol to keep pupils safe
A West Berkshire school is overjoyed by continued local support for its vital school crossing patrol.
West Berkshire Council cut funding for Long Lane Primary School’s crossing patrol in 2018 as part of its decision to cease funding for six patrollers in the district.
All parents, staff and pupils at the Tilehurst school wish to thank Willmott’s Plastic Building Materials, in Reading, and Sansome & George Estate Agents, in Tilehurst, whose continued sponsorship ensures pupils continue to stay safe when travelling to and from school.
“We are very grateful for this support and would like to say a huge thank you to Sansome & George Estate Agents and Willmott’s Plastic Building Materials for sponsoring our school crossing patrol,” said heateacher Tina Allison.
“I think you’ll agree that Mr Darling [the school’s patroller] does an amazing job and the children love to give him a wave or a high five as they are greeted into school in the morning and leave at the end of the day.”
Willmott’s general manager Scott Willmott added: “I am a parent with a child at the school.
“My family cross the busy road every day and I can’t imagine what it would be like without Mr Darling helping them.
“As a family business, we are proud to be sponsoring Long Lane’s lollipop man.”
Managing director of Sansome & George Paul Bampton is also keen to support the initative.
“At Sansome & George, we take immense pride in supporting the local community, especially Long Lane Primary School,” he said.
“We are pleased to have helped maintain the safety for the children and their parents travelling to and from the school.”
