School's £9m building project officially opened
The £9m project was officially opened by the guest-of-honour Sir John Madejski in July and has seen upgrades to teaching facilities in science, IT, art, music and philosophy as well as providing new social and study spaces for sixth form students.
Assistant headteacher, Mike Boys, said: “These new facilities demonstrate our ambition for students and confidence in a successful future. Students feel really valued and appreciate the fact that they have been involved in designing the buildings which they are now using.”
With inspirational names such as the Aristotle building and the da Vinci space, the pupils can enjoy a new venue for assemblies and exhibitions at the school's new focal point.
To mark the occasion, pupils held a charity summer fair and invited guests to take part in traditional games of hook-a-duck, have a go at the coconut shy, paint henna tatoos or guessing the number of balloons in the school minibus.
A time capsule containing the student’s thoughts, work and use of technology - including a defunct mobile phone - from the jubilee and olympic year of 2012, was buried at the entrance of the Piaget building, along with their hopes and ambitions for the future.
“It was a very proud day for the school. We are very grateful to Sir John and our other guests for attending,” Mr Boys said.
“Sir John, in particular, was very generous with his time signing autographs, posing for photographs and talking to students about their work.”
