Schools closed and further delays to rail services due to flooding today (Thurs)





Great Shefford Primary School is closed today, and pupils are being taught at Chaddleworth St Andrew’s Primary School.
West Berkshire Council has warned that the school is likely to also be closed tomorrow (Fri).
Yattendon Primary School will not be opening until 10.30am.
Meanwhile, due to flooding on the lines close to Maidenhead, only five trains are running per hour between Reading and London Paddington compared to the usual 12 per hour.
Some services are also being delayed or cancelled at short notice and commuters are being urged to check their journeys before travelling at http://www.journeycheck.com/firstgreatwestern
There are no weather warnings in place for West Berkshire today, however, the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain from 6am tomorrow (Friday) until noon on Saturday.
This is in addition to a yellow warning for wind from 3pm on Friday until noon on Saturday.

Soldiers from 4 Rifles, Bulford, left their headquarters at the Newbury Weekly News last night to reassure residents.
Meanwhile, West Berkshire Council and Thames Valley Police are urging motorists not to ignore road closure signs, with a number of road and footpath closures in force due to clouding across the district.
This includes the A338 Newbury Road at Great Shefford, between Church Street and Buckham Hill; High Street, Compton; Dean Copes Road, Sheffield Bottom, at the Hanger Road junction and Sulham Lane in Pangbourne.
Motorists and pedestrians are being reminded that six inches is enough to knock an adult off their feet and 12 inches is enough to move a vehicle.

An overturned lorry at the Greenham Business Park roundabout on the A339 is causing further delays to motorists.
No severe weather warnings are in force today. Rain is forecast from noon until 3pm, with sleet showers expected to follow.
An 18-hour yellow warning for rain is due to come into force across West Berkshire at 6am tomorrow (Fri), to be joined with a yellow warning for wind at 3pm.
