Woolton Hill schools donate nearly 200kg of food to West Berkshire Foodbank as part of harvest celebrations
The schools of Woolton Hill came together and celebrated the harvest festival by donating food gifts to families and households in need of support.
St Thomas’ Infant School and Woolton Hill Junior School donated 198.8kg worth of food to West Berks Foodbank, which equates to 417 meals given to those in need.
The schools held a joint harvest celebration in St Thomas’ Church in Woolton Hill on October 4.
Headteacher Paul Davies said: “It was such as joy to see both schools come together in St Thomas’ Church to give thanks for the crops that have been gathered and also raise awareness about the families and households that need our support – especially in a cost-of-living crisis.”
The celebration included performances of songs, poems, and readings from all the children in the infant and junior schools.
Staff, parents and other family members were present at the event to join in with the harvest celebrations.
Mr Davies added: “It was also one of the first occasions since the pandemic where we could invite parents back into the church to see their children having fun and showcase what they have been learning with their friends.
“A big thank you to Reverend Christine and her team for helping us make it happen too.”
