Seasonal police drink/drug drive campaign starts today
Extra patrols to enforce month long crack-down
THE SEASONAL police campaign starts today (Thurs) aimed at preventing the destruction and distress caused by motorists who drive after drinking, or taking drugs.
Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary are working together on the month long campaign to deter and detect behaviour behind the wheel that puts lives in danger.
Every driver involved in a collision will be breathalysed.
Thames Valley Police Road Safety lead, Sgt Chris Appleby, said: “Drink and drug-driving kills or injures people.
“Losing a loved one to drink or drug-driving devastates the victim’s families – think about their pain when sitting at the dinner table on Christmas Day and someone is not there because of an act of drink or drug-driving.”
Officers from both forces will be enforcing the campaign day and night during December across the Thames Valley, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and with extra patrols.
Members of the public wishing to report a suspected drink/drug driver should telephone the non emergency number, 101 or text 80999 with details of the vehicle, driver, location and times. In life-threatening emergencies, telephone 999.
Chief Insp Henry Parsons, of the Joint Roads Policing Unit, will be online on Dec 6 to answer questions about drink/drug-driving, including the legal alcohol limit, penalties, how alcohol and drugs affect driving, or other issues relating to the topic.
