Second appeal for witnesses to Newbury fight

Four men were hospitalised after the altercation outside the Coopers Arms public house

THAMES Valley Police is re-appealing for witnesses to an altercation in Newbury town centre recently, in which four people were injured.

Just after midnight on October 2, two men, aged 24 and 27, were outside the Coopers Arms public house, on the corner of Bartholomew Street and Craven Road, when they got into an argument with another man.

The altercation escalated and other parties became involved, before two men were slashed with a weapon, sustaining wounds to their hands and bodies. Both men were taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading for treatment and later discharged.

Two other men received injuries to their faces and heads. They were taken to the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and later discharged.

Detective Constable Greg Hulse, investigating the incident, said: "After our previous witness appeal, a number of people came forward and enquiries are ongoing.

"I am very keen to speak to a woman who came to the aid of one of the men once the altercation was over and told them she was a first-aider. She assisted the man until the ambulance arrived and I would urge her to contact police.

"I would also like to speak to anyone who was in the pub at the time in question and has not yet spoken to police."

If you were the woman who gave assistance, or know who she is, or were at the Coopers Arms on the evening of October 2, please contact Det Con Hulse via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.

If you don't want to speak to police or leave your name, call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
