Second arrest in Cameo auctioneers inquiry
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Lucy Billen said: “On March 28, a 62-year-old man from Caterham in Surrey was arrested in connection with this investigation.”
It is the second arrest police have made in their joint investigation with West Berkshire Council’s trading standards team.
The first to be arrested, in January this year, was 64-year-old former Cameo boss Jon King, of Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
He surrendered to police bail for a second time last Wednesday, March 27 – to be told to report back next month (May) to see if he will formally be charged with fraud relating to his conducting of the now bankrupt business, formerly based at Midgham.
Cameo suspended trading after a raid by trading standards officers in May last year, which followed a series of articles by the Newbury Weekly News.
The joint investigation by Thames Valley Police and West Berkshire Council trading standards officers involved contacting hundreds of former Cameo customers across Britain and abroad.
Mr King was officially declared bankrupt last June.
Both he and the unnamed 62-year-old have been bailed until May 3.
The Official Receiver subsequently located goods that were held in a storage container by a friend of Mr King.
So far, there have been two item collections; one on February 4 and the other on February 28.
A spokesman for the receiver, Ade Daramy, said: “There is to be another collection of goods belong to former Cameo Auctions customers.
“The message for former customers is: if you have not already been in contact with the Official Receiver and provided details of your goods held by Cameo Auctioneers, or have any queries regarding any unsold items, please contact Will Johnson by telephone on 0118 951 4665 or alternatively by email at
