Second phase of racecourse plans to go on display

A public exhibition of the detailed plans for the Central Area B will take place at Newbury Racecourse next month

DETAILED designs for the second phase of the major redevelopment of Newbury Racecourse will go on display to the public next month.

A public exhibition will be held at the racecourse on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4, focusing on the detailed designs for the Central Area B, which includes a 120-bedroom hotel, a new children's nursery, new accommodation for stable staff together with refurbished stables and 366 one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

The plans form the next phase of the 12-year redevelopment project that could see up to 1,500 homes built on the racecourse, about 450 of which will be affordable shared equity housing or available to rent.

A detailed planning application for the Western Area C, including 422 apartments and family homes, was recently submitted to West Berkshire Council.

Managing director of property development and finance at Newbury Racecourse, Sarah Hordern, said: “We are delighted to have reached this very exciting stage in the redevelopment of our historic racecourse.

“After extensive consultation with the local authority, stakeholders and residents, we can now show everyone our vision for the future.”

Representatives from the design team at David Wilson Homes will be on hand at the exhibition to answer questions from members of the public and project director at David Wilson Homes, Mark Ashall, said further comments on the new designs would be welcomed ahead of the submission of the next planning application.

The exhibition will take place at The Pavilions at the racecourse between 4pm and 9pm on Friday, June 3 and between 10am and 3pm on Saturday, June 4.

Anyone who is unable to attend the exhibition can telephone Newbury Racecourse on 01635 40015 to request a paper copy of the exhibition and a comment form, while the exhibition will be available online at the Newbury Racecourse website, which can be accessed by clicking the link below.
