Senior youth club discussed by Thatcham Town Council

Volunteers have come forward to help but the town mayor still wants more so the youth club can re-open

THE management committee which runs the Vision Youth Club in Thatcham is to consider expanding to run both the junior and senior youth clubs in the town.

The suggestion was put forward at a meeting in December to discuss how a new senior youth club could be re-set up after it was axed following budget cuts.

Following the meeting, town mayor, Lee Dillon, said the discussion had been positive and that he was pleased that members of the public had attended.

The issues was discussed at a meeting of the town council's finance and general purposes committee last night (Monday) when Mr Dillon added: “It was a useful meeting in that we had people from different areas attend.

“It's up to the management committee to say whether they are comfortable with it.”

It was also announced last night that since the meeting in December, several members of the public had come forward to help.

Mr Dillon added: “I'm sure we will get more volunteers once it gets going.”

He said that he was still urging more parents and young adults to get in touch to help.

The next meeting for interested people will be held at 6pm on January 19 at the council offices in Brownsfield Road.
