Sentencing adjourned on Thatcham man caught with crack cocaine

Police on patrol on December 25 last year arrested a motorist with crack cocaine and cannabis in his waistband, Newbury magistrates heard on Thursday, January 16.
Claire Beards, prosecuting, said officers stopped Dean Andrew Collins in his car outside his home in Lancaster Close, Thatcham, and immediately smelled a strong odour of cannabis.
She added: “They found two deal bags in the waistband of his track suit bottoms.”
The 23-year-old admitted possessing crack cocaine - a Class A drug - and the Class B drug cannabis.
He has previous convictions for similar offences, the court heard, and further admitted breaching a conditional discharge imposed for a prior offence of possessing Class A drugs.
Stephen Collins, defending, said his client had been looking after the drugs for a friend but admitted he was illegally in possession of them when police stopped him.
Magistrates adjourned sentencing for reports to be prepared.
