Severe cold weather warning in place
Freezing conditions to continue in south east England for next five days, according to Met Office
THE freezing weather is set to continue across West Berkshire for the next five days at least, according to forecasters.
The Met Office has issued an amber alert for severe cold weather and icy conditions between today (Monday) and Friday.
Wintry showers are expected and drivers have been asked to take care when out on the roads as icy patches continue to form.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service activated its severe weather contingency plan over the weekend, and Thames Water has asked customers to report leaks as the cold will lead to an increase in burst pipes.
In January, the water firm received reports of an average of 100 leaks a day to the Leakline. Since Wednesday, February 1, and the start of the freeze, the number of calls went up to 300 a day.
