Severe weather warning issued for West Berkshire
The yellow warning for rain – urging people to “be aware,” comes into effect at midnight tonight (Thursday) until 9am on Friday. It is expected to affect much of the south of the country.
The Met Office said: “The public should be aware of the risk of disruption, chiefly from localised surface water flooding.
“A band of heavy rain accompanied by locally very squally winds, chiefly in the west, will move quickly northeast across southern parts of the UK during Thursday night, clearing the southeast by mid-morning on Friday.”
The Chief forecaster has said that the warning is down to another rapidly deepening area of low pressure which is expected to move north across Ireland during Friday morning bringing a "relatively narrow band of heavy rain, which could produce 10-20mm within 2-3 hours."
“The strongest of the winds should remain to the west of the warning area, although very localised squalls may accompany the cold front across southwest England and Wales.”
