"We received a report of a sewage overflow into a ditch on Thursday, June 15 along Holtwood Road by our Hamstead Marshall Sewage Treatment Works,” said a Thames Water spokesperson.

"Our teams attended the same day, cleared the sewage from the ditch and carried out a clean-up of the area.

“A tanker arrived on site to pump the nearby water course to mitigate against any potential pollution."

And the unnamed road from the Craven Arms pub to Holtwood Road will be closed from July 4 to 6 to enable the company to carry out repairs and maintenance works in the area.

The closure will be between its junction with Redhill and its junction with Holtwood Road.

Residential access will be maintained throughout and the diversion route will be signed on site.

Blue light access will be permitted via the diversion route only.
