SGN change timetable for gas upgrades in Streatley
Changes have been made to months of planned roadworks in Streatley.
SGN’s contractor, I&G Contractors Limited, has been upgrading the metal gas pipes with new plastic piping in the village since May 15.
But the section of the A329 closed for the first part of its phased works – originally forecast to last six weeks – reopened on Friday, June 9.
SGN has now commenced work in Wantage Road, originally meant to fall under its third phase, starting in September.
This means that work on phase two has not yet begun.
These works would have seen engineers move into Streatley Hill from July 24 for approximately three weeks, closing the road from the junction of The Coombe, where temporary traffic lights would have been placed for up to seven weeks.
But the utility company says the works are progressing well and are currently ahead of schedule.
A spokesperson for SGN confirmed the new schedule saying: “Our works are currently continuing along Wantage Road and Wallingford Road until Friday, July 24, when our works will then move to Streatley Hill.
“The road closure in Streatley Hill is scheduled to begin as planned on Monday, July 24, and end on Friday, August 18.”
They added: “When we have completed our work in Streatley Hill at the junction of The Coombe, we will return to complete any outstanding work in Townsend Road, Wallingford Road and Wantage Road.”
More details to follow in due course.
