Shaw House summer fair the most successful since the pandemic
Despite the weekend’s weather warnings, Shaw House’s annual summer fair went ahead as planned and went on to become the most successful edition of the event since the pandemic.
The fair took place on Sunday (July 16) and around 2,000 people visited the historic grounds of the 16th Century manor house to enjoy the attractions on offer.
There were over 70 local craft stalls selling jewellery, homeware and gifts along with a face painting stall and a pottery painting station managed by The Ugly Duckling, the coffee house located on Bartholomew Street.
For kids, there were some bouncy castles, fairground rides and Mr Muddle the Magician performed magic tricks throughout the day.
One of the highlights of the day was the dog show organised by the National Animal Welfare Trust, which was said to be full of “happy, smiley dogs”.
The Great Little Pony Company was also present on the day showcasing its two miniature Shetland ponies Honey and Blossom to fairgoers, and local singer-songwriter Izzy Adams performed live music throughout the day.
Shaw House events manager Sarah Somerville said: “It was a very busy day. We had about 2,000 people on site so it was probably the most popular fair we’ve had. We were also very lucky in terms of the weather.”
Shaw House itself was also open for visitors to explore and discover on Sunday.
