Sheet ice on route between Newbury and Basingstoke

Drivers urged to take extreme care near Swan/A339 roundabout

DRIVERS are warned of sheet ice formed due to flooding on a major route between Newbury and Basingstoke this morning (Wed).

Sheet ice has formed on the A339/Newtown Road, just prior to the Swan roundabout at the junction with the A339.

The sheet ice has formed due to flooding across the carriageway, in either direction, due to plunging temperatures.

According to Thames Water the flooding is sewage, gushing across the road, the source of which is a privately owned drainpipe.

Newbury firefighters also issued advice this morning (Wed) to drivers to take extreme care in the icy conditions.

This was after a driver's lucky escape when a car flipped on ice on the A4 at Woolhampton earlier this morning.
