All aboard the Ship Inn for a trip down memory lane
Olde Tyme Music Evening with Kingsclere Singers and Kingsclere Players at Shipinnarts, Ashford Hill, on Saturday, February 17
VANESSA from the Shipinnarts team reports on another enjoyable event at Ashford Hill’s Ship Inn pub that was reborn as the Ship Inn Arts Centre and Country Hotel.
“We had the most fabulous evening here at Shipinnarts on Saturday.
“The amazingly talented Paul Freeman kept us all happy with tune after tune on the piano before it all started and then during the whole of the evening with the songs.
“The audience kept coming in and it was full evening of fun entertainment for all.
“We were so lucky to be able to have the Kingsclere Singers directed by Hazel O’Leary and the Kingsclere Players, with Mike Stokoe who was master of ceremonies and his hammer, with commanding voice and huge amounts of vocabulary got us all to attention with heaps of laughter too.
“Lovely Olde Tyme music songs includes She was a Sweet Little Dicky Bird, Enery the Eighth I Am, Down at the Old Bull and Bush, My Old Man said Follow the Van, Daddy Wouldn’t by me a Bow Wow, Daisy Daisy, The Policeman’s song and many more.
“There were recitals of poems and stories – The Owl and the Pussycat, Little Red Riding Hood, The Nancy Bell, Albert and the Lion, I’m Shy Mary Ellen, I’m Shy among them.
“Our audience was incredible, joining in with a lot of the words and songs. Thank you to all who came.”
The next event is coming up on Sunday, March 3, from 3pm to 5pm – a family event with The Hands-on Company Puppets. This puppet show with Jo Bryant, will be followed by making sock puppets so participants can create a puppet show of their own.
