Newbury shoplifter Rebecca Smith assaulted man
A SHOPLIFTER has been ordered to compensate a man she assaulted.
Rebecca Smith appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 26.
The 37-year-old, of Love Lane in Newbury, admitted assaulting Saleh Mohamed by beating him.
She also admitted stealing toiletries worth £234.75 from Sainsbury’s and stealing sunglasses from Vision Express.
All the offences were committed in Broad Street, Reading, on May 24 last year.
Magistrates made Ms Smith, who was legally represented by Adonis Daniel, subject to a two-year conditional discharge.
No order for costs was made because of her lack of means to pay.
Neither was Ms Smith required to compensate the stores she targeted.
However magistrates ordered her to pay £100 in compensation to Mr Mohamed in lieu of an otherwise statutory victim services surcharge.
