Shops caught selling alcohol or fireworks to underage children in Thatcham, Newbury and Speen




Shops have been caught selling alcohol and fireworks to underage children in a recent police investigation.

Two of three shops in Thatcham were found selling alcohol and fireworks to 15 and 17 year olds in a police ‘test purchasing’ operation carried out on Sunday (October 27).

And of two shops checked in Newbury, one failed to ask for ID and refuse the sale.

A shop is Speen was also found selling alcohol to children.

But of the two shops checked in Hungerford, both passed by checking for ID and refused the sale.

The individual sales assistants who sold the items will be issued with £90 fixed penalty notices or be reported to court.

The stores involved will also be referred to Trading Standards.
