Show president thrilled with family turnout
PRESIDENT of the Royal County of Berkshire Show, Zoe Benyon, said she is thrilled with the turnout today (Sat), and in particular of the amount of families that had attended.
"It's going really well," she told NewburyToday reporter Ellis Barker. "I have noticed so many families, there's definitely more than normal.
"The have-a-go message is working, it's brought in the families. Everyone seems calm and happy, they are having a lovely time."
The chairman of trustees, Simon Carter, added: "With the weather forecast being quite favourable I think we are going to have a great show.
"It's a good, relaxing atmosphere."
This year, guests are encouraged to have a go and try something new, with a range of activities on offer, from riding a mechanical horse, getting on board a segway or getting behind the wheel of a fire engine.
The latter was an experience thoroughly enjoyed by brothers Dave and Bertie, aged six and four, from Shalbourne.
"I have never, ever, ever sat in a fire engine," said Dave.
They were visiting the show with their granny, Rosina Dickens, from Hungerford, who said: "I think it's great. They have been on the army tank, the police tractor.
"I think an agricultural show is all about seeing and doing things that you haven't done before."
