Singer covers her mums favourite songs on fundraising album
Languages teacher at St Bartholomew’s School, Gail Hendrickx, recorded the album with Compton musician Dave Stamp, following the death of her mother last year and of her father four years previously. They both died from cancer.
The album, entitled Blue Honey, consists predominantly of cover tracks of her mother’s favourite songs, among them Bonnie Raitt’s I Can’t Make You Love Me, and an original track written by Mr Stamp.
She said: “They both really loved music and were especially supportive of my singing career.
“In the years after my father’s death, I had a lot more contact with my mother. She had an amazing sense of humour and was always singing around the house.
“We knew that she would leave a big space in our lives when she passed away.”
So far, the pair have raised just over half of their £1,000 target, and they presented a cheque to staff at the Cancer Research shop in the Market Place, Newbury, last Wednesday.
The album can be purchased for £5 at the Cancer Research shop, or online at
