Six-metre wide convoy to swell the M4 and A34 on Sunday

The 6-metre wide, 44 tonne transporters are expected to leave the Westbury Trading Estate on Sunday August 24 at 6.45am. They will join the M4 at junction 18 before heading east along the motorway and joining the A34 at Chieveley before following the M3 near Winchester on its journey towards Eastleigh.
David Rodwell who is the transport manager of Leicester Heavy Haulage who will be driving the cargo said that the transporters should be in the Newbury area between 11am and midday and cautioned motorists that they will be very wide, at six metres across.
Wiltshire Police Spokesperson Chris Wise said: “We are escorting it up until the Wiltshire border and the company will use a private escort who will take over from there. Thames Valley Police are aware of the convoy.
“Due to the size of the transporters, they will be slow moving and will have the potential to create congestion.
“Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum but hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient if they come across this load. Anyone travelling over this period should allow sufficient additional time.”
