Smoke alarm prevents Greenham fire escalating

Two engines, from Newbury and Lambourn, were alerted at 8:30pm to the incident in Pigeons Farm Road after the occupant was woken by a smoke alarm.
It took around 30 minutes to extinguish the fire, which started as the occupant had left cardboard in his oven.
He was not injured and there was no smoke damage to the property.
Crew Manager, Gary Yorke said that if the smoke alarm had not woken the occupant up the fire could have been worse.
He also asked people to test their smoke alarms and those without one can receive one for free at a fire station.
