Smoke alarms save lives of Tilehust household

Watch manager of Blue Watch at Dee Road Fire Station, Tilehurst, Steve Trenery, said two pumps were called from the station at 10.30pm, to a kitchen fire at a house in Rodway Road.
Firefighters discovered a heavily smoke logged house on arrival, with smoke issuing from the kitchen window.
Four occupants had self-evacuated before firefighters arrived, after being alerted by the smoke alarms.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using a hosereel.
Firefighters left the scene around 11.30pm.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
