Smoke over M4 after 'explosion' involving fireworks causes large fire in Westbrook
UPDATE: The road is now open but fire teams remain on the scene.
A large fire has caused smoke to descend over the M4 today closing it in both directions between Junction 13 and Junction 14.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue were called to the "industrial building" in Westbrook, Newbury at 1.41 this afternoon (Saturday).
It said crews from Newbury, Theale and two officers have currently been sent to the scene, together with crews from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters have found a fire involving possible pyrotechnics and fireworks.
It said cordons are in place but advised people to stay away from the area whilst emergency services deal with the fire.
The fire service also asked people to restrict any calls to emergencies only as crews are extremely busy.
The large building fire which National Highways said broke out near the M4, is causing debris to land in the carriageway.
It said that while Berkshire Fire and Rescue are working to control the fire, Thames Valley Police are leading an operation.
