Snow hits West Berkshire

West Berkshire wakes up to snow and ice today (Sunday), send us your pics

THE wait is over, the snow has arrived.

Falling in light flurries from around 5pm in Newbury yesterday a blanket of the white stuff coated the district in just a couple of hours after reports of heavy blizzards sweeping large areas of the UK.

This photograph (above) was taken by Newbury Weekly News photographer Phil Cannings yesterday evening in Newbury.

West Berkshire Council's gritters have been out in force coating the roads around the district, and the Met Office has issued another amber alert for severe cold weather and icy conditions, and has predicting more snow and minus temperatures for the next week.

The weather has prompted the Highways Agency to issue warnings, and drivers have been advised to take care and only make journeys if absolutely necessary.

Yesterday several incidents of problems on roads were thought to be caused by the inclement weather.

The disruption also extended to sporting fixtures across the district which fell afoul of the weather.
