Something for everyone at this year's Royal County of Berkshire Show
Visitors reminded to expect traffic delays
THERE promises to be something for everyone at this year’s Royal County of Berkshire Show – with the weather also looking fine for the weekend.
The two-day agricultural show, which will be held at Newbury Showground on Saturday and Sunday, showcases a new food and farming zone this year, with hands-on activities, demonstrations and information about British farming.
The weather promises to stay dry, with light cloud and sunny spells forecast for West Berkshire and a top temperature of around 18°C.
With thousands of people expected to descend on the Chieveley venue for the annual event, visitors are being reminded that traffic will be heavy in and around the area.
There will be various restrictions in place, including on Priors Court Road, which will be closed between 6am and 8pm on both days.
Reading Buses will have a special N10 shuttle running every half-hour from Thatcham Broadway to the showground, via Newbury Bus Station. Anyone with a simplyNetwork period ticket or annual pass will be able to use it on the shuttle bus.
At the show, visitors will be wowed by the daring antics of the White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team, while the Pony Club mounted games will make its debut.
The first leg of the 2017 British Show-jumping International Stairway Class competition and the Scurry Driving Championship finals will also take place in the main arena.
Elsewhere there will be an animal Olympics trail, farrier displays, a craft marquee, food fair and flower tent, as well as a parade of hounds and a grand parade of livestock.
Weather permitting, a mass balloon ascent will fill the sky at the close of each day. (For more see pages 45 to 52.)
People will also be flocking to the town centre this weekend, with the racecourse playing host to one of its biggest annual events.
The Dubai Duty Free weekend takes place at Newbury Racecourse tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, when multiple Grammy and Brit Award-winning music producer and DJ, Mark Ronson, will bring the curtain down.
Gates open at 12pm on Friday and 11am on Saturday. The concert will take place after the final race on Saturday, at around 5pm.
