Song for greyhounds
Newbury singer/composer donates proceeds from single to charity close to her heart
NEWBURY singer and composer Fiona Bennett says there are three passions in her life. Her family, her music and her greyhounds. She has combined her love of music and greyhounds this year by offering to donate all profits from her Christmas single This Year to a UK greyhound rescue charity. “It costs just 99p to download the song from either iTunes or Amazon,” says Fiona, “and I hope to be making a substantial donation to Birmingham Greyhound Protection in 2017, when the sales royalties come through.”
There are many greyhound charitiesin the UK, but this one is close to Fiona’s heart because, she says, “they regularly take in dogs abandoned by the racing industry and also, they brought back several greyhounds sold to China this year, including Hei Hei and Da Boa who were rescued from a truck bound for the meat markets.
“Being a vegetarian, I can’t imagine eating any form of meat, but the thought that these two beautiful dogs were going to be killed and eaten made my blood run cold. I just want to use whatever talents I have to help and support this amazing charity. They recently rescued four greyhounds from a woman who kept them in a dilapidated barn, only fed them every few days and the waterbowls were so filthy, the dogs were badly dehydrated.”
If you buy This Year you’ll help Birmingham Greyhound Protection rescue even more of these gentle dogs in 2017.
