South Bradfield combine harvester fire

Three fire engines at scene

A BRADFIELD combine harvester was saved from going up in smoke yesterday (Sun) evening, thanks to the efforts of firefighters.

Three fire engines, including one from Newbury and two from Reading, were called at 6.30pm, to a field off the main road through south Bradfield.

A fire had started in the machinery of the rear of the combine and embers which dropped out of the back had also set some of the field on fire.

No-one was hurt.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze using a hosereel and also using beaters on the field.

The combine was not badly damaged.

The cause was put down to accidental.

Firefighters left the scene after about an hour.
