Space age kit for injured jockeys
The Injured Jockeys Fund’s (IJF) flagship rehabilitation centre is awaiting delivery of one of the world’s most advanced pieces of training kit – the AlterG anti-gravity treadmill.
Developed by NASA and used in the training of astronauts, the AlterG allows the user to exercise under reduced gravity, like running on a cushion of air, thereby reducing their bodyweight with dramatic results.
The AlterG is used by the world’s best athletes and teams to help reduce the frequency of injuries, build fitness, and allow the athlete to train and recover more quickly.
It is due to arrive at Oaksey House later this month.
Medical advisor to the IJF, Dr Anna-Louise Mackinnon, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer the revolutionary AlterG machine at Oaksey House.
“This ground breaking piece of training equipment is an example of what we are trying to achieve at Oaksey – constantly moving forwards at the cutting edge of sports injury prevention and rehabilitation.”
