Spare a thought for parents with terminally ill children this Mother's Day, says hospice

Among them is Newbury resident Sue George whose daughter Holly, aged 12, has a rare genetic condition which requires specialist round-the-clock care.
A donation of £25 to the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service can provide one hour of respite to parents and carers such as Ms George.
She said: “When you have a child with a life-limiting condition you are not able to leave them with anyone, they need to be cared for and looked after by someone who understands their condition.
“In our case this means we cannot leave our little girl with her grandparents on her own...so we don’t have nights off - to go out requires military planning, simple things like going for a meal to celebrate a birthday with your husband [or] having some me time is just not possible.
“Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service offers us that help, we are able to ask our Alexander’s Nurse or Alexander’s Carer for some respite time at home.
“Having been trained to look after Holly, they arrive and just take the reins. I don’t have to worry, we can go out and leave her happy and content.
“Without this help we would be looking after Holly 24/7 without a break and this is not good for her or us. You need time to recharge the batteries, getting up two to three times a night is draining.
“Just having that hour or two off can make a world of difference.”
