Drop off and pick up paint in West Berkshire re-use scheme

A scheme to recycle spare paint has been launched in West Berkshire.

Residents can now drop off leftover paint at the household waste recycling centres in Newbury and Padworth.

Staff will assess the paint and see if it is in a good enough condition to be re-used.

Residents can then visit the paint re-use section and browse to pick up some free paint.

To drop off or pick up leftover paint locals must register for a digital permit to visit the site and have booked an appointment.

This scheme is only open to householders and not traders, retailers or manufacturers.

Craig Stephens, campaign manager for Recycle Now, said: “By recycling even better we can have a big impact on our environment.

"In West Berkshire it’s no different – more and more people are recycling, so the next step is to make sure we get our recycling right. ”

The new separate food waste collection service is also due to start from the end of October.

“We’ve also recently installed two new mini-recycling centres at Theale and East Garston and are currently looking into a potential further site," said Steve Ardagh-Walter, (Con, Thatcham Colthrop and Crookham) executive member for environment and transformation at West Berkshire Council.

"The council will continue to explore more ways to help our residents to avoid waste generation and recycle more.”
