Special service marks Church anniversary
Newbury United Reformed Church is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a special service today (Sunday)
NEWBURY United Reformed Church is celebrating its 50th birthday with a special service today (Sunday).
The current building is the fourth at its current site since 1687, and lined up a programme of events with something for everyone this weekend.
Church trustee Andrew Bruce said the celebrations would serve two purposes, to celebrate the previous half century, but also to help the church grow and ensure its survival for the next 50 years.
The service at the church starts at 10.30am, and will be attended by MP for Newbury Richard Benyon, as well as many other local dignitaries.
The service will be conducted by the Rev David Cornick, readings will also be given by the Rev Clare Downing, and previous ministers the Rev Keri Eynon, and Anglican Priest the Rev Joy Hance.
Macmillan Cancer Support, weight loss groups, Newbury Astronomical Society, the Newbury Society, and even a Buddhist meditation group were at the church yesterday.
