Speed of traffic in Ecchinswell raises concerns with villagers
One villager at the Ecchinswell, Sydmonton and Bishops Green parish council meeting, said there were particular concerns about Brocks Green, where a wheelchair user and horse riders were put in danger by the traffic.
Another villager, who said he lived at the south side of the village, where a 100-year-old man would regularly walk up the road with the aid of a zimmer frame, so would be unable to jump out of the way, if necessary,.
He added that the road was also often used by small children on their way to a nursery school in the village.
The chairman of the council, John Broxis, said that they did not have any powers to stop speeding motorists, although they had succeeded in getting the 30mph limit extended through the village.
However, Mr Broxis said that he was not trying to brush the issue of speeding through the village aside, but that it was a “constant battle. We are one voice in many. We see the tyre marks after people have done a bit of exciting braking,” he added. Prior to the meeting, at the council’s annual meeting, Mr Broxis was re-elected parish council chairman and Fabrice Vaisset was elected as vice-chairman, replacing Alan Meredith.
A GARDEN safari around Kingsclere recently ( Sunday June 22) raised £1,957 for village church funds.
Around 250 people joined the safari, for a stroll through a selection of pretty village gardens, with teas available at St Mary's church, or at Jada, Union Lane. Visitors were entertained by a ukulele group at Jada, and also a guitar group at Fieldgate farmhouse.
All proceeds to St Mary’s Church Keystone Project.
