Speed restriction on A4 all weekend
A lorry collision yesterday (Thursday) and fuel spillage means traffic near Kintbury will be restricted to 30mph
AN EMERGENCY speed restriction will remain in place on a stretch of the A4 near Kintbury over the weekend following an incident yesterday morning (Thursday).
The carriageway near the Halfway Inn, near Kintbury, was closed for much of the day after two lorries were involved in a collision at 4.30am.
The incident saw 200 litres of diesel spill onto the road leading to a clean-up operation which lasted well over 12 hours.
A 30mph speed restriction was temporarily put on the road, and now council highways officers have deemed it must remain in place over the weekend.
A 47-year-old man was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading as a result of injuries sustained in the crash which saw fire officers work for over three hours with heavy cutting equipment and a HGV platform to free him from the wreckage.
The driver of one of the lorries, a Dutch man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
A spokesman for West Berkshire Council, Phil Spray, said a further site visit will take place on Monday to re-assess the condition of the carriageway.
