Speen hotel extension 'a dream come true' says owner
The building, called The Barn, will be used as a restaurant and wedding reception venue.
It was declared open by Newbury mayor Jo Day last week, following a six-month project that cost in excess of £250,000. Many local dignitaries and selected guests were in attendance at the opening last Friday.
Speaking to the Newbury Weekly News, Mr Nelsey said: “I first saw this pub as a 21-year-old and I said then, one day I would love to own it and extend it. It was just a pipe dream at the time, but now I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have been able to actually achieve it.
“I’ve been here nine-and-a-half years now and I’m glad we have been able to create something so beautiful which will secure the pub’s future for centuries to come.”
The pub posted a message on its website saying: “‘After a long and arduous passage through planning, we firmly believe
The Barn will be a stunning addition to the choice of wedding and celebration venues in Newbury.”
