Speen man admits headbutting pub bouncer
Daniel James Davis, aged 26, of Sutton Road, headbutted Lawrence Wilson in the face after refusing to leave the Diamond Tap, Newbury magistrates were told last Thursday.
Naomi Edwards, prosecuting, said: “The defendant was told to leave twice and became abusive. A door supervisor put a hand on his arm to remove him from the area but he continued to refuse to go. He then headbutted the door man on the right cheek.”
Mr Davis admitted assault by beating on April 20 this year. He has several previous convictions for violence, said Miss Edwards, and has previously been given a suspended jail term.
Steve Molloy, defending, said: “This regrettable incident was fuelled, in part, by alcohol. He objected to the way he saw someone being treated by bouncers and voiced his opinion. He is a hard-working man whose temper got the better of him. He was taken hold of and, in the course of a struggle, headbutted this man. He has never been on benefits in his life and is a not a burden on the taxpayer. He received bruising as a result of being manhandled by the bouncers and so has received some corporal punishment, if you will.”
Magistrates told Mr Davis that he had committed an “unprovoked assault on someone carrying out their duties” and reminded him that a headbutt was considered to be assault with a weapon. They imposed a 12-month community order with 100 hours unpaid community work requirement. Mr Davis was also ordered to pay Mr Wilson £50 compensation and to pay £85 costs with £60 victim surcharge.
