Speen sewage leak fixed but road still flooded, says Thames Water

Newburytoday.co.uk received reports at the start of the week of sewage leaking from a manhole on the A4 in Speen, and a spokeswoman for Thames Water, Natalie Slater, confirmed that the firm was aware of the problem.
She added yesterday afternoon (Tues) that, although the sewage leak had been repaired, there was some excess water on the road surface due to a high amount of water already in the sewage and drainage systems.
She said: "The blockage was cleared yesterday afternoon and we have jetted the sewer pipe to clear the debris.
"However, due to the incredibly high groundwater levels, there is still an excess of water in the sewer pipe.
"This will remain high until the rain stops and the groundwater levels start to drop.
"Last year was the wettest year on record in England and the ground is so full of water it's like a soaked sponge meaning any additional water is running straight off the top and into our sewers.
"We're sorry for any disruption this is causing."
