Elephant at the Market named Newbury BID’s Hallowe’en Spooktacular Window Competition winner
Elephant at the Market has been crowned winner of Newbury Business Improvement District’s Spooktacular Window Competition.
Shop windows in Newbury have been covered in ghosts and ghouls for the past week.
And they have been battling it out to be named scariest window in the town.
Coming out on top was hotel/bar Elephant at the Market which had various well-known Hallowe’en figures painted on its windows.
Annabelle, Coraline, Michael Myers and Stephen King’s Pennywise are the ghoulish characters gracing the pub windows on Market Street.
It gained 352 votes in the Newburytoday online poll.
The artist behind the creepy creation is staff member Ashlyn Winter, who has been drawing her whole life.
She said: “I am really excited about it.
“Going into it [the competition] I was hoping that we would have a chance.
“I have had really cool interactions, people have been taking photos with the window, coming in.
“I’ve had little girls running up to the window and regulars have been sat talking about it.”
She added: “I took inspiration for it from the people around me.
“I really love Hallowe’en, I love the creativity of it.
“This wasn’t just me, we [Elephant at the Castle] have all won.”
Coming in second place was Ugly Duckling with 189 votes.
PyromaniArt came third with 146 votes.
Isabel’s Retro received 119 votes in fourth place.
And in fifth place was Valarie Jerome opticians with 101 votes.
A total of 1,377 votes were submitted to the Newburytoday poll.
