THATCHAM TOWN’S first season back in the Hellenic League ended in derby disappointment as Newbury snatched a last-gasp penalty equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw at Waterside Park to take their fourth point off their neighbours this season.
Thatcham ended the game with nine man after player-manager Gareth Thomas saw his side’s second red card when handling on the line to prevent a goal and Ben McCready slotted the equaliser from the spot.
That wiped out Thatcham’s 24th minute goal when Paul Taplin’s free kick was fumbled into his own by Newbury goalkeeper Chris Waller.
Brett Denham scored five out of nine as Tadley Calleva completed a weekend double to enhanced their Sydenhams Wessex League Division One promotion prospects.
He struck twice in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Pewsey Vale where Ashley Ledger, Adam Alliston and Ben Wickens also scored and cracked a treble in Monday’s 4-1 home win over Fleet Spurs with an own goal completing their tally.
