Town miss out in clash of Hellenic favourites

Kidlington 2 Thatcham Town 1

THATCHAM’S starter against fellow pre-season title candidates Kidlington saw them go down by the odd goal in three after spending much of the second half with only 10 men.

They had defender Mark Hughes sent off for a second yellow card in the heat of Yarnton Road, after falling behind when Lewis Coyle’s corner was headed home by Tom Castle.

And Kidlington soon struck again when Coyle won a free kick 25 yards out and sent a curler beyond the Thatcham wall.

Thatcham had chances but made things more difficult for themselves after the break when Mark Hughes was adjudged to have gone over the top on George Morris and received his second yellow and a red card, although Thatcham stood firm at the back and gave themselves a chance when Marc Thomson cut in to score with 10 minutes to go although the 10 men could not salvage a point in the time added on.
