THATCHAM threw a six as they eventually swept aside a young and plucky United side at Waterside Park on Tuesday night.

Despite making a lively start, Abingdon were trailing 4-0 after only 34 minutes and looking set for a whitewashing as Thatcham created a succession of chances.

But they clawed back two goals and might have a third to give Thatcham a few worries before Town wrapped it up with two late goals.

Josh Baines struck twice with Josh Helmore and Marcus Mealing on target and Thatcham hit the woodwork three times while a neat double – including a penalty – from George Reid cut the gap and Chris Rackley had to save from Ryan Wild to deny them a third before Helmore’s second goal and one from Adam Morris completed the tally.
