Hungerford Town 1 Histon 0
HUNGERFORD had to wait 94 minutes for the goal that broke a cold deadlock at Bulpit Lane.
Histon looked set to give manager Steve Fallon a point-starter on his return to the club, but a frenzied finish saw Rhys Tyler pop up with the shot that finally found a way past goalkeeper Denzel Gerrar and leave his owns idels bhsos Bobby Wilkinson a relieved man.
“I feel like I’ve had a bit of uck,” he said, “I said at half-time that it might take until the 90th minute, but I’m overjoyed because my boys never give up.”
The deciding goal came after Gerrar had made a string of saves in the closing stages, while Hungerford also missed some decent openings.
They might have gone ahead early on when Evan key hauled down Nat Jarvis on the edge of the box but Gerrar tipped Garyn Preen’s free kick onto the post and out. Preen also almost set up Stefan Brown before a bright start ended as Histon battled into the game and Josh Oyinsan was guilty of wasting a secent shooting chance.
Gerrar saved well from Jarvis before the break , but it was Paul Strudley’s turn to see action shortly after the restart wen he got across well to keep out Sam Ives’ goal-bound effort.
Ryan Auger also wasted a decent opening, while Jarvis sjot at Gerrar and Brown blaxed an angled effort across goal.
Otherwise Gerrar was Histon’s hero, keeping out James Clark’s free kick, saving at the feet of Harry Goodger and then blocking out Matt Day, Ritchie Whittingham and James Rusby in the frantic finale that ended with the ball falling for Tyler to hit his shot that spun in off Key after 49 minutes and 12 seconds.
